In this exclusive, unedited interview, Debbie Wasserman Schultz breaks down the insurance requirement mandated by the Affordable Care Act. (6:04)

I DON'T THINK IT'S UNFAIR FOR AREPUBLICAN NARRATIVE TO SUGGEST.

I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION AND ISAT ACROSS FROM BOTH PEOPLE

SELLING IT AT ITS MOST BASICLEVEL AND THEY SAID DEFINITIVELY

IF YOU LIKE YOUR PLAN, YOU WILLNOT HAVE IT TAKEN FROM YOU.

>> HERE IS SOMETHING ELSE THATHAPPENED THOUGH.

WE DID SAY THAT.

I WAS ONE OF PEOPLE THAT SAIDTHAT.

>> Jon: THAT'S ALL THAT IS.

SO I THINK THAT IT'S NOTUNREASONABLE TO EXPECT, HEY, YOU

KNOW WHAT?

IT ACTUALLY TURNED OUT THAT'SNOT THE CASE BUT WE'RE WORKING

TO MITIGATE IT.

INSTEAD YOU GET A BIG WALL OFREPUBLICANS ARE BAD.

I KNOW ALL THAT.

[ LAUGHTER ]I WANT TO GET TO THE OTHER PART

WHICH I THINK IS A REASONABLECRITICISM, I THINK, THAT I THINK

DESERVES A BETTER RESPONSE THANTHEY'RE TERRIBLE AND ALL THAT.

[ APPLAUSE ]>> MY RESPONSE IS NOT JUST THAT

THEYTERRIBLE.

>> Jon: I KNOW.

>> THE COVERAGE YOU ARE GETTINGNOW FOR THE MOST PART IF IT'S

NOT THE SAME BECAUSE YOUR POLICYIS DISCONTINUED IT'S LESS

EXPENSIVE AND MORE COMPREHENSIVECOVERAGE.

A BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR, IF YOUARE UNDERINSURED BREAST CANCER

PATIENT, I'VE HAD WOMEN COME UPTO ME SAYING DEBBIE I HAD TO

CHOOSE BETWEEN THE CHEMO ORRADIATION BECAUSE I COULDN'T

AFFORD THE DEDUCTIBLE ON BOTH.

THOSE WERE THE PLANS AVAILABLEBEFORE OBAMACARE WHAT SO MANY

BARE BONES COVERAGE PROVIDES.

>> Jon: THERE'S NO QUESTIONTHERE'S GOING BE A WORLD OF

PEOPLE WHEN THIS GETS UP ANDRUNNING IF IT GETS UP AND

RUNNING IN THE WAY THAT THEYSAID IT WOULD ARE GOING TO BE

HELPED.

MY ONLY POINT IS THERE AREALSO LOSERS.

AND WITHIN THAT -- IF YOU AREMAKING $30,000 A YEAR AND YOU

NEVER HAD HEALTH INSURANCE THATWAS THE

GAMBLE YOU TOOK AND YOUGET A SUBSIDY BUT THAT DOESN'T

COVER THE WHOLE COST OF THEBRONZE PLAN.

>> IT LOWERS YOUR MONTHLYPREMIUM, SIGNIFICANTLY.

>> Jon: LET'S SAY IT'S $300AND YOU GET A $200

SUBSIDY.

IT'S STILL $100 A MONTH FORSOMEBODY WHO DIDN'T WANT

SOMETHING.

>> YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT -->> Jon: IF YOU HAVE A

CATASTROPHE PLAN.

>> ONE DAY I WAS THE PICTURE OFHEALTH NEXT DAY A BREAST CANCER

PATIENT. IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WITHA CATASTROPHE PLAN, YOU CANNOT

GET THE HEALTH CARE YOU NEED TOSAVE YOUR LIVE WITH A

CATASTROPHE PLAN WHEN YOU FINDOUT ONE DAY YOU HAVE CANCER.

>> Jon: SURE.

I'M UNDERSTANDING OF ALL THAT IDON'T THINK WE SHOULD BE BURYING

UNDER THE RUG AS AN EXAMPLE OFSOUR GRAPES REAL PEOPLE

PUT IN REAL SITUATIONS WHEREIF I'M MAKING $30,000 A YEAR AND

PAYING $1200 A YEAR FOR APRODUCT THAT IS A MANDATE.

>> SOMEONE MAKING $30,000 A YEARIS VERY LIKELY ALMOST FOR SURE

GOING TO PAY LESS FOR THECOVERAGE THEY ALREADY HAVE WITH

A SUBSIDY.

SOMEONE WHO HAS GONE BARE ANDNOT HAD IT IT WILL COST THEM

MONEY.

THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT FORTHEM.

>> Jon: IS THERE A WAY TOMITIGATE THAT FOR THE LOWER

MIDDLE CLASS?

THAT'S WHERE IT HITS AND I CANSEE IT BEING A BURDEN?

IS THERE ANYTHING DISCUSSED THATMAYBE COULD BE DONE FOR THEM

THAT COULD HELP AMELIORATE THAT>> WE

NEEDREPUBLICANS AND

DEMOCRATS TO SIT DOWN.

>> Jon: YOU ARE ABOUT TO THROWIT BACK TO THE BOOK.

>> AT LEAST ONCE.

>> Jon: YOU ARE A TRUEPROFESSIONAL.

IT HAS ALL THE ANSWERS.

>> IT DOESN'T.

AS A MOM FOR ME WE SHOULD BEMEASURING.

>> Jon: IT HAS THE ANSWERS.

YOU SHOULD HAVE GIVEN IT TO THEMBEFORE.

>> IT HAS ONE OR TWO.

I AGREE.

IF THEY WOULD JUST LISTEN TO ME,EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE.

>> Jon: ONE OF MY BIGGESTFRUSTRATIONS IS I THINK WHEN I

BRING UP A CONCERN THAT IS VALIDOR DISCUSSED THAT IS NOT PART OF

PURELY THE PARTISAN MACHINE ANDI THINK WE'RE ALL SO CONDITIONED

TO SHUT THINGS DOWN THAT ARENEGATIVE BASED ON POLITICAL

CONSEQUENCE THAT WE FIND IT HARDTO TALK ABOUT THE REAL

COLLATERAL OR UNINTENDEDCONSEQUENCES OF THINGS.

>> IF REPUBLICANS ARE DEMOCRATSARE WILLING TO SIT DOWN TOGETHER

AND SORT THROUGH THE CHALLENGES.

>> Jon: RIGHT.

>> ESPECIALLY IF WE PUT THEWOMEN IN THE ROOM.

I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANYREPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC WOMEN

MEMBERS OF CONGRESS SAID IF THEYLOCK US IN A ROOM WE COULD GET

THIS DONE IN A MATTER OF HOURS.

>> Jon: CAN I SAY THIS?

WHY DON'T YOU DO THAT?

THEY ALWAYS HAVE THAT CRAZYTHING.

THEY TALK ABOUT THE GANG OFEIGHT AND JOHN McCAIN COMES IN

WITH A JET PACK.

FORGET ABOUT IF THEY LET YOU,JUST DO IT.

>> THEY DID IN THE SENATE.

THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.

>> Jon: DO IT WITH THE WOMENOF THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE AND

COME TOGETHER WITH A PLAN ANDPRESENT IT TO THE AMERICAN

PEOPLE AND WE WOULDN'T -- I BETPEOPLE WOULD BE LIKE OH, MY GOD

THAT'S THE ANSWER.

THEN YOU TAKE HER AND THEN WECREATE LIKE A GLAMAZON SOCIETY

WHERE MEN ARE SUBSERVIENT WERECHAINED ALL DAY WEARING WEIRD

FLINTSTONES OUTFITS. THAT WORKSFOR ME.

>> Jon: YOU ARE IN CHARGE ANDIT'S ALL GOOD.

>> WORKS FOR ME.

SOUNDS GOOD.

[LAUGHTER]>> Jon: I JUST WROTE MY NEXT

MOVIE.

NEXT GENERATION ON THEBOOKSHELVES NOW.

THANKS FOR COMING ON.

>> THANK YOU.
